Birth and 3-Year Old Early Head Start Classes

Early Head Start is a federally funded community-based program for low-income families with pregnant women, infants, and toddlers up to age 3.  The reauthorization of the Head Start Act in 1994 made it possible to establish Early Head Start as a program to serve these individuals.

Early Head Start provides early, continuous, intensive, and comprehensive child development and family support services to such low-income children and their families, aswell as pregnant women and their families.

3-Year and 5-Year Old Head Start Classes

They are entitled to meals and trasportaion if needed and also receive medical and dental services. Head Start strongly encourges physical activity and the children enjoy playing safely indoors and outdoors.

Head Start/Early Head Start families can take part in the classroom as a volunteer, help with classroom projects, and even help develop curriculum by being electedto take part in the Policy Council. The PC is a board that partners with staff members in decision-making responsibilities for the program. Families can also participate in trainings in areas such as parenting, job training, health and nutrition, as well as learn about other resources in our community.

Transitional Kindergarten Classes

Two of our five Head Start Classes are considered Transitional Kindergarten Classes. These classes are attended by children in their last year of Head Start and are scheduled to transition into Kindergarten the following year. The teachers in these classrooms work closely with the public school's elementary to assure the school that these children are school-ready when matriculating to Kindergarten.
